Summit Film Society Hosting Area Premier of The Great Gilly Hopkins

On Saturday, January 28 at 7 pm, the Film Society of Summit will host the area premiere of the dramatic film THE GREAT GILLY HOPKINS. We will welcome the two of the film’s young actors to lead post-screening discussion of this entertaining film: Zachary Hernandez of Wycoff, NJ who plays W.E. and Claire Foley who plays Agnes.

synopsis:
Wisecracking 12-year-year old Gilly Hopkins has seen more than her share of foster homes and has outwitted every family she has lived with. When Gilly is sent to live with the Trotters, the weirdest family yet, she isn’t planning to stick around. But cheerful, affectionate Maime Trotter isn’t giving up on Gilly just yet – she is sure there’s a hurt little girl in there somewhere. Gilly knows she has to escape, and if she can’t run then she’ll lie her way out. In an effort to escape her new foster mother Mamie Trotter’s (Kathy Bates) endless loving care, Gilly concocts a plan that she believes will bring her mother running to her rescue. But when the ply blows up in Gilly’s face it threatens to ruin the only chance she’s ever had to be part of real family.

The script was adapted from a multi-award-winning novel by Katherine Paterson, author of The Bridge to Terabithia.
